H&S Men's Group

Austin, Texas

A twice-monthly circle. Sacred space for men doing the work.

I am Conor McMillen. I run Heart and Sword and I facilitate the group.

Twice a month, a small group of men meets in Austin to do the slow, consistent, demanding work of growing into the mature masculine. What happens in a session is its own thing. We follow what is alive in the room. Over time, certain shapes recur: the four archetypes (King, Warrior, Magician, Lover) appearing in our lives, Internal Family Systems meeting what is underneath them, sacred space held every time.

What a session looks like
01

Opening

Phones in the car. Sacred space named. A short opening orients the room and brings the men in. My job as the facilitator is to hold the conditions for what wants to emerge.

The work

One or more men step into deeper work. IFS unburdening, an archetypal mirror, an embodied exercise, the cohort holding one man's question. We follow what is alive.

Closing

A short round. What each man takes with him, what he wants to remember, anything left unsaid. The container closes the same way it opened.

The group is forming

The group meets twice a month in Austin, and I am gathering the men for it now. Fill out the form to get on the list. I will reach out personally, and dates go out to the list as they are set.

  • Who shows up

Heart and Sword is shaped by five orientations: fatherhood, sobriety, sexual integrity, a higher power, and sacred space. You do not need to have these fully embodied. You need to be honestly oriented toward them.

    Who holds the room

    Organic. Subtle. Direct. Expansive.

Through my training in Internal Family Systems and a decade of working with thousands of clients, I have come to a simple conclusion: IFS is a powerful and easy-to-understand system that deepens self-awareness and opens a path forward to healing. The way healing actually happens is quieter still -- it is the practice of feeling our feelings. The ones present right now. And the ones we could not feel before. That is the spine of how I hold the room.

For men's work I call forward the four archetypes -- King, Warrior, Magician, Lover -- to help men understand both their gifts and their shadows. I call forward integrity, vulnerability, and boundaries.

This is not about a show, or producing a high that lasts a week. It is about sustainably growing into the mature masculine. The process looks different every time. What stays the same: we come together to be vulnerable, direct, honest, raw, held, and pushed when needed -- both sovereign and interconnected.
